It is not easy to obtain residence visas under the Ministerial Discretionary requests. 

The previous representative of the clients, who was a Member of Parliament (MP) made the requests for the clients, but unsuccessful.  We managed to obtain three residence visas under the Ministerial Special Direction for the clients.

I found details of Dr Bastani on the internet, and reviewed his records online. I contacted him directly, and he responded to me on time. He arranged a meeting at the first available time and took all my details and applied for my refugee claim in New Zealand. He advised me on all the steps to go through the refugee process very clearly and transparently, and reviewed all of my documents. He then represented me at the RSU interview, and prior to the interview, he fully advised me on the interview process. I had a good confidence going through the process because of his proper advice.

Dr Bastani then provided his legal submission and advocated for me and used a lot of legal sources to defend my case. Based on his good practice, and the strength of my case, I achieved my refugee status in New Zealand without any need to do an appeal. The Minister of Immigration granted residence visa to our client per section 45 of the Immigration Act 2009. We have a wealth of experience in the area of Ministerial requests.

• I received instructions in the midst of the evacuation of USA military forces from Afghanistan and the Taliban taking over the power in Afghanistan. 
• Immediately, I prepared the application and applied for the visa for my client. 
• I urgently followed up with the application and communicated with my client while he was going to the Kabul international airport seeing planes departing the airport, but waiting for his visa. 
• Within less than 10 days of my engagement, the visa was issued and I communicated with the New Zealand Consular in the middle east, the New Zealand Foreign Affairs and relevant organisations. 
• At the meantime, in the midst of the night, I was communicating with my client and helped him to remain calm. 
• My client was picked up by the last flight of the New Zealand military forces departing Afghanistan. 
• My client and 2 teenage girls of his family were able to depart Afghanistan and they arrived in New Zealand in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
• After spending 2 weeks in the quarantine facility, my clients landed in Christchurch and I saw them in person. 
• This work was one of the most enjoyable humanitarian works that I have done in my career.
